'Ballston Rocks'
Village of Ballston Spa
One of the small gems of Saratoga County, Ballston Spa is a quaint, Victorian village located just five miles south of Saratoga Springs. Known officially as “A Village of Friends”, Ballston Spa is often described as a strolling village due to its lovely, historic downtown filled with distinctive shops, restaurants, galleries and museums. In keeping with its welcoming, small town atmosphere, the village is celebrating its special appeal this summer with “Ballston Rocks”. Over 100 painted Adirondack style rocking chairs are located throughout the village, decorated in different colors and themes by local artists, organizations, school children and individuals. The chairs are mostly intended as “usable” art. After browsing through antique stores, specialty shops and artist galleries, partaking in spa treatments or grabbing a bite to eat at one of the village’s several restaurants, visitors can sit a spell in one of the rockers and enjoy soaking up the local atmosphere amid the hanging flower baskets, parks and gardens. The “Ballston Rocks” theme is this season’s launch pad for a host of special events and activities that have become synonymous with summertime in Ballston Spa, including farmers markets, free outdoor concerts and films. The rocking chairs will be on display from Memorial Day through Labor Day. A free chair map guide is available at local businesses (or by clicking on More Info), indicating the chair locations, titles, sponsors and artists. There will be an end of summer live chair auction and party on September 12th. Several of the chairs will be available for auction to the public with proceeds supporting community events. Come to Ballston Spa and see why this village really rocks! Click on the link below to download and print a Chair Walking Guide.

'Ballston Rocks' Chair Auction & Celebration (5:30 PM)
Brookside Museum, 6 Charlton Street
We would like to thank all the chair sponsors and artists in this year’s “Ballston Rocks” marketing campaign. The response to this event exceeded our best expectations. Many local organizations and families were involved in the creation of these unique works of art. Residents and tourists alike were attracted to the village to view the chairs. The program also drew excellent media coverage about Ballston Spa. Now, a number of these chairs will be available for the public to bid on at the "Ballston Rocks" Chair Auction and Celebration to be held at Brookside Museum on September 12th. All of the donated chairs will be on display. Auctioneer John Christman will conduct the live auction. Preview is at 5:30 pm with the auction starting at 6:30. Proceeds from the chair auction will go to support community events in Ballston Spa. Awards of merit, as determined by a panel of judges, will also be presented. There will be hors d’oeuvres and a cash bar benefiting Brookside’s educational programs. Tickets to this event are $5 each and are available for pre-sale online at www.ballston.org (Click on more info below) or at Coffee Planet, 100 Milton Avenue. Tickets will also be available at the door. Silent or left bids on chairs will also be accepted in advance of the auction by email to info@ballston.org or by calling 885-2772.
