The Schenectady Symphony Orchestra is a talented group of more than seventy musicians, working under the leadership of award-winning Music Director Charles Schneider.
The Ballston Spa Dishcrawl will offer up to 40 participants the chance to socialize and explore four local Ballston Spa restaurants sampling some of their best dishes in one evening. The owners or chefs from each restaurant will be on hand to talk about and answer questions about their best dishes.
The Dishcrawl menu will include an appetizer, main dishes, desert, and wine/beer tastings. The Dishcrawl will take place on Monday, March 12th, starting at 6:15 p.m. The participating restaurants are kept secret until that evening. A few days before the event, all ticket holders will be contacted and given a location where they will meet the other participants to start their food adventure.
The cost to participate is $50 per person which includes all food, drink samples, tax and gratuity. There are just 40 tickets available and tickets must be pre-purchased and are non-refundable. The Ballston Spa Business and Professional Association will hold its Annual Meeting and Community Mixer on Monday, March 19, 2012 at the Ballston Spa Elks Lodge. The evening will start with a social hour from 6-7 pm. The meeting will begin at 7 pm. The theme of the evening will emphasize the importance of supporting our community by shopping locally.

The New York State Writers Institute presents a reading by Joseph Lelyveld, journalist and nonfiction author, who worked at the New York Times from 1962 through 2001, including as executive editor from 1994 - 2001. Lelyveld's most recent book is Great Soul: Mahatma Gandhi and His Struggle with India (2011). The book reveals Gandhi's "less palatable tendencies" as well as his vision for nonviolent revolution. Publishers Weekly described Great Soul as "A stirring evenhanded account that relates the failure of Gandhi's politics of saintliness while attesting to its enduring power." Lelyveld won the Pulitzer Prize in 1985 for his nonfiction book Move Your Shadow: South Africa Black and White based on his reporting tours in that country.

The New York State Writers Institute presents a reading by Ghassan Zaqtan, major Palestinian poet, who is also a novelist, journalist, screenwriter and a leading representative of the avant-garde in Arabic literature. His most recent collection-the first to appear in English-is Like a Straw Bird It Follows Me (2012), which was translated by Fady Joudah, a Palestinian-American poet and winner of the Yale Series of Younger Poets competition for his own collection, The Earth in the Attic (2008). A past participant in numerous panels and colloquia with leading Israeli writers on peaceful coexistence and mutual concerns, Zaqtan is also the co-founder and director of the House of Poetry in Ramallah and is currently the Director General of the Literature and Publishing Department of the Palestinian Ministry of Culture.

Crossroads Center for Children is a not-for-profit school serving children diagnosed with autism and other developmental disabilities. While Crossroads has been in operation in the Glenville area since 1998, we recently moved our school into the Rotterdam Corporate Park. Our new facility will allow us to better serve our students and their families as well as the community as a whole. We are very excited to be in our new home and look forward to continuing to serve this area for years to come.
The school serves families from eight different counties and approximately 30 surrounding school districts. In addition to providing high quality and effective academic services, Crossroads provides parent and professional training, parent support, behavior management programs, and sibling counseling. While we receive funding in the form of tuition from school districts, counties and the state, those monies do not cover all of the costs of running a successful and effective program. In order to support our students and their families in the most effective manner, Crossroads must do additional fund raising to fill the gap.
Our Annual Gala will be held this year on April 27, 2012 at Key Hall at Proctors in downtown Schenectady. This is one of our biggest fundraisers of the year. We have always been touched and grateful for the level of support we have received. In addition to the donation of services, gift certificates and merchandise, we offer various levels of advertising and sponsorship opportunities. All monies raised go directly to program activities that support our students and their families. We appreciate any support you can offer.

The bands will be performing to help raise funds towards the purchase of a vehicle for meals deliveries. So come out and listen to some great live music and support our cause!
