Gentle Yoga is a style of yoga that is far less strenuous than other types of yoga. It is as little or as much as you want it to be. Its modifications lower the intensity of the workout. If you would like it, chair yoga can be a part of your practice. Everything is designed to reduce the strain on your body. Lessening strain does not mean lessening benefits. The graceful and deliberate postures (Asanas) will strengthen and tone your entire body. The breathing exercises (Pranayama) will deepen your practice and bring stillness and calm. Class ends with a period of deep relaxation.
Restorative Yoga- WE work hard in our lives, while we may sleep, we rarely take time to rest. Our class is based on teachings of deep relaxation designed to benefit all of the organ systems of the body.

The Path: Beyond the Physical follows the 2009 release of The Afterlife, a film produced by April Hannah, and directed by Michael Habernig, a filmmaker from Kingston, NY. Honor Flight:One Last Mission is a heartwarming documentary about four living World War II veterans and a Midwest community coming together to give them the trip of a lifetime. Volunteers race against the clock to fly thousands of WWII veterans to Washington, DC to see the memorial constructed for them in 2004, nearly 60 years after their epic struggle.

Georgia O'Keeffe will be portrayed by University at Albany instructor, Claire Nolan, a professional storyteller and superb performer who has acted with The Schenectady Theater for Children. O'Keeffe, known best for her lush close-ups of flowers and her inspired New Mexican desert landscapes, first broke into the art world here in New York. She produced her first flower and leaf paintings as well as Adirondack landscapes at the family home of her husband, Alfred Stieglitz, on Lake George. This performance will prepare you for the O'Keeffe exhibit at the Hyde Museum in Glens Falls this summer: "Modern Nature: Georgia O'Keeffe and Lake George."
Join hundreds of Capital Region women as they don red and band together to fight women's No. 1 health threat, heart disease. There will be health screenings, educational breakout sessions, manicure touch-ups and a silent auction featuring "purse-onalities" donated by local women. Cardiologist Dr. Andalib Nawab, medical director of Ellis Medicine's Women & Heart Disease Program at the Neil and Jane Golub Breast and Heart Health Center at the Bellevue Women's Center, will be the keynote speaker. Mary Hart, whose heart functioned at 10 percent of its capacity before doctors diagnosed heart disease, will share her story. Money raised funds research to help the American Heart Association's Go Red for Women movement fight heart disease in women. Tickets are $100 each.

Dell has exhibited widely in the Northeast including the Monmouth Museum and the Drawing Center in New York. She lives in New Jersey.
Liz Parsons is a mixed media artist living and working in Glens Falls, NY. Considered an outsider/ expressionist artist, she specializes in paintings and artist books.

The National Bottle Museum's annual fundraiser, known as The Saratoga Antique Bottle Show & Sale, will be held on Saturday, June 1st at Ballston Spa High School, just beyond the intersection of NYS Rt. 50 & 67. This annual fund raiser benefits the museum and its programs, attracting antique bottle collectors and dealers from coast to coast in the United States. The doors open to the public at 9:30 AM and the show closes at 3:00 PM. General admission is $3.00 for adults and $1.00 for children aged 12 and under. Antique glass bottles, pottery, stoneware and related objects, such as advertising, will be available for purchase. All merchandise is provided by the sellers.
Like the National Bottle Museum®, the Saratoga Show and Sale highlights the history, technology and artistry involved in creating mouth blown bottles which are collected as historic artifacts. The Albany Symphony is extremely proud to welcome legendary American pianist, Emanuel Ax, who makes his debut with the orchestra as the centerpiece of our American Music Festival. Mr. Ax joins the orchestra for Christopher Rouse's "Seeing," an extraordinary piano concerto commissioned by the New York Philharmonic for Mr. Ax in 1999. Drawing more than 2,000 participants, the event includes 10-, 25-, 50-, 62.5- and 100-mile routes. The early bird registration fee is $15 and there is a $200 fundraising minimum for all riders. The annual ride is part of a nationwide movement to Stop Diabetes and change the future of the nearly 26 million Americans living with the disease.

The city of Cohoes will be alive on June 8 as it joins New York in the statewide Pathways to History Celebration. As part of its Heritage Days, there are a number of activities planned. One of the main events is an Antiques Appraisal by Dennis Holzman and Mark Lawson from 9 am - 1 pm at Harmony House Marketplace at 188 Remsem St. For a fee of $5 per item, an oral appraisal will be given. All proceeds from the event will benefit the Friends of the Cohoes Public Library. The Visitors Center at 58 Remsem St. will host a photo exhibit by Dave Koschnick entitled: Cohoes: Steepled in History. There will also be self-guided walking tours of Cohoes available, a presentation about the life of George Stacy Davis at 1:30 pm (with the dedication of a sign to him at Silliman Park at 3 pm) and will be the assembly place for a guided tour of the Troy-Schenectady RR at 11 am. The Cohoes Library will hosts members of the DAR who will give presentations on how to research your genealogy. Other activities include a mini-fiber fest at More Bread and Jam at 130 Remsem St. from 10 am - 2 pm; a tour of Zephyr Preservation Studio, a textile conservation studio, at 130 Remsem St. an outdoor Mass at the Cohoes Falls on North Mohawk St. and a Polish Food Sale at St. Michael's Church on Page Ave from 4 pm- 6 pm. and a Parish-wide garage sale at Holy Trinity Parish at Vliet and Simmons Ave. The Cohoes Artist Showcase will also be held at the Venue @ St. Joseph's Church at 65 Congress St. from 10 am - 8 pm. Harmony House Tours has partnered with Dutch Apple Cruises to bring a new "Land & Water Tour of Albany"! Part of I Love New York's "Path through History" celebration, tours will take place on June 1 &2, and June 8&9 to coincide with the statewide celebration.
First, Harmony House Tours provides a land tour of Albany based on its 300+ years of history. The run will start and finish at the Ballston Spa High School . The USATF certified course winds through the village of Ballston Spa. There will be prizes awarded to 1st, 2nd and 3rd Place finishers in 6 male and female age groups. T-shirts for participants while supplies last. There will be a Kids Run (400 meter) directly following the 5K at 10:30 am. Volunteers are also needed to assist on the day of the event.

Admission is $75.00. Saratoga Sponsor A Scholar is a non profit corporation that helps academically motivated, finically disadvantaged students excel in high school and succeed in college. The organization was founded in 2009 by Saratoga Springs High School, members of the Saratoga Springs Community, Skidmore College and the Saratoga Mentoring Program. SSAS selects 10 financially disadvantaged sophomores each year and dedicates up to $10,000 to each scholar's enrichment: $4000 during three years of high school for supplies, academic support, mentoring and college visits. Each scholar receives $1,500 for every year they successfully complete in college. There are currently 38 students enrolled in the program.All proceeds for this event go directly to support the SSAS students.
Our singers take to the stage with show tunes, old standards and popular songs performed in a room that was built for great sound. This cabaret-style evening showcases APM's individual and ensemble talents.

Anagama Kiln Firing(10:00 AM - 5:00 PM)
Salem Art Works
Salem Art Works will have four kiln firings in 2013. These firings are available to ceramic artists who would like their work fired in the anagama wood kiln. Three full days will be spent loading the kiln, taking into account the movement of the flame and desired surface on the pieces. After loading, the kiln will be fired for five days and four nights, overseen by ceramic artists on site. All work must be cone 10 clay, bone dry, or bisque fired and delivered to SAW at least two weeks prior to each firing for loading. The price is 6 cents per cubic inch for firing.
The public is always invited to come and watch the process and watch the unloading as the ceramic artists discover their finished work as it comes out of the kiln.

This three day workshop gives students an opportunity to explore the exciting medium of blown glass. The class will concentrate on a particular aspect such as blowing bubbles, vessel making, or color application. Students will be led through a series of demonstrations of tools and techniques to help them understand the principles of glass blowing and glass sculpture. The class will then try out the techniques as a group. Each student will have the chance to work one on one with an instructor, creating a finished piece to take home. Students are encouraged bring their own ideas, a lot of energy, and patience. Students must wear closed toe shoes, long sleeved cotton shirts, and thick cotton or denim long pants.

Winchester & Young will perform a variety of classic rock and roll songs from the 50s, 60s, 70s and 80s at the Saratoga Eagles club on Saturday June 15th. With an accoustic flavor and carefully blended harmonies.
In this two day beginner's workshop, students will learn how to make printable images on cloth or paper using silk screens. Students should come with their own materials to print on and are encouraged to bring a selection of sketches and images to work from. Suggested items to use as printing surfaces include heavy weight paper, shirts, handbags, and linens.*

In this two day class students will learn skills and techniques of traditional and modern iron working as well as the equipment, safety, and tools used. On day one, participants will gain a basic understanding of blacksmithing by designing and forging a pair of functional tongs. On day two, students will use the tools that they have created to complete a small project of their own design.
Level: Beginner - Intermediate
Age: 14+ *Students under the age of 14 must have parental supervision.
In this two day beginner's workshop, students will spend the first day being introduced to oxy-acetylene welding, heating, and bending. For the purpose of expediency, MIG welding will be the primary focus, but workshops can be customized. Students will be led through health and safety instruction and then will practice the basic techniques on scrap metal provided.
With these skills, students will spend the second day constructing a metal piece of their own creation. Students should come with ideas or sketches of work they are interested in fabricating. If more time is needed to complete projects, students may use the welding facilities the following week, working independently, for an hourly rate. Please contact the SAW office for details.
Long sleeved cotton shirts, thick cotton or denim long pants, and leather boots are required. Students should bring pencil and paper to sketch out ideas and take notes.

Host a student from Spain this summer(6:00 PM)
Throughout Capital Region
The Capital Region area will be hosting a group of exchange students from SPAIN! The coordinator, Melanie Lawrence, is currently looking for volunteer families to host these students for all or part of the time. The organization Global Friendships has successfully been placing students with host families in Schoharie County for 7 years. This is the first time the program will be run in the Capital Region.
Host families come in all shapes and sizes, including:
- Families with small children - Young couples
- Single parents - Families where both adults work
- Retirees
What does it take to qualify as a host family?
A willingness to share yourself and our culture, willingness to provide meals, some transportation, a place for the student to sleep (sharing a room is okay with same gender students) and a warm, supportive environment.
What does one gain from the experience?
Warm memories, unforgettable experiences, increased understanding of another culture, a rich appreciation for cultural & individual uniqueness, enjoyment in making new friends and more than words can describe.
Students will have English classes in the mornings and will be busy most days. They have an activity after class 1 day a week and full day trips once time per week. Many activities are planned and host family members are encouraged to participate on the trips. Some of the trips will include trips to New York City, Boston, Lake George, and Six Flags New England as well as a variety of local half-day activities. Your students will be busy during the week and free to spend time with your family at night and on weekends.
On Thursday June 27, 2013 the Saratoga Springs Preservation Foundation presents TRASK: Preserving Saratoga Springs Through Art, a one night art show and sale through silent auction. TRASK benefits the restoration of the Spirit of Life sculpture and Spencer Trask Memorial in Congress Park.

CF is a genetic disease affecting 30,000 children and adults in the United States. It causes the body to produce abnormally thick, sticky mucus, which leads to chronic and life-threatening lung infections and impairs digestion. Since 1955 when the Foundation was established, the mission of the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation, a nonprofit donor-supported organization, has been to assure the development of the means to cure and control cystic fibrosis and to improve the quality of life for those with the disease. Despite all of the breakthroughs in research, we continue to lose precious lives. The money we raise at events like the 65 Roses Gala contributes to life-saving research and treatments.

Mutant Bike Workshop with Troy Bike Rescue(9:30 AM - 4:30 PM)

Join Salem Art Works for the Mutant Bike Workshop with the Troy Bike Rescue, where students with some welding experience are given the opportunity to create one-of-a-kind bicycles utilizing more in-depth welding techniques. Students will have access to oxy-acetylene for cutting and bending, MIG welders and finishing tools as well as recycled bike frames to repurpose into new creations. Participants are welcome to bring personal materials to tailor their piece to meet their vision. Students may use the welding facilities the following week, working independently, at an hourly rate. Please contact the SAW office for details.
Long sleeved cotton shirts, thick cotton or denim long pants, and leather boots are required. Students are encouraged to contact Troy Bike Rescue to discuss their plans prior to the class. A pencil and paper are recommended to sketch out ideas and take notes.
*Troy Bike Rescue is a volunteer-run bicycle resource center located in Troy, NY. They focus on diverting bicycles from the waste stream of car culture, teaching hands-bicycle maintenance, and re-purposing bicycle parts into new creations.
In this two day beginner's workshop, students will learn how to make printable images on cloth or paper using silk screens. Students should come with their own materials to print on and are encouraged to bring a selection of sketches and images to work from. Suggested items to use as printing surfaces include heavy weight paper, shirts, handbags, and linens.*

Captain Squeeze and the Zydeco Moshers is one of the most versatile zydeco bands in the country. Since their beginning in 1996, they have become one of the busiest zydeco bands from the Northeast performing throughout the region. Their music appeals to people of all ages and musical tastes. They work hard to involve the audiences by having extra scratch boards for guest appearances with the band every set. Zydeco music is infectious and this band wants to help that continue! Captain Squeeze, Greg Speck, now resides in New Orleans and shares his music in both the Northeast and LA. Wipers Keepin' Time from their fourth CD has been aired on NPR Radio's Car Talk. The band?s unique approach to playing Louisiana Bayou music keeps dancers jumpin all night long as they mix old-time traditional and new zydeco with a flavor all their own.
Exploring the overlap between painting and weaving, Jonsson creates shimmering paintings on woven silk thread inspired by a range of sources, including the unique geology and landscape of her native Iceland.

This intermediate level workshop will build on students' skills and offer opportunities to work on joinery and forge welding, as well as creating decorative elements such as twists, scroll work, and leafing. Participants will have the opportunity to work on individual projects of their own design. For more advanced projects, please contact workshop instructor Ron Bakerian through the SAW office to ensure projects are feasible in the time allowed.
Levels: Intermediate - Advanced
Age: 18+

The Saratoga Arts Celebration is a juried fine arts and fine crafts festival of visual and

In a gorgeous park setting as well as inside the Dance Museum, the Arts Celebration is timed with start of Travers Festival week in Saratoga Springs.
The Festival is a juried event featuring more than 100 artists
selected locally and from across the country and Canada. Their
paintings, photography, drawings, prints, sculptures, mixed media,
jewelry, ceramics, fiber, metal and glass pieces are all originals

Salem Art Works will have four kiln firings in 2013. These firings are available to ceramic artists who would like their work fired in the anagama wood kiln. Three full days will be spent loading the kiln, taking into account the movement of the flame and desired surface on the pieces. After loading, the kiln will be fired for five days and four nights, overseen by ceramic artists on site. All work must be cone 10 clay, bone dry, or bisque fired and delivered to SAW at least two weeks prior to each firing for loading. The price is 6 cents per cubic inch for firing.
The public is always invited to come and watch the process and watch the unloading as the ceramic artists discover their finished work as it comes out of the kiln.

This three day workshop gives students an opportunity to explore the exciting medium of blown glass. The class will concentrate on a particular aspect such as blowing bubbles, vessel making, or color application. Students will be led through a series of demonstrations of tools and techniques to help them understand the principles of glass blowing and glass sculpture. The class will then try out the techniques as a group. Each student will have the chance to work one on one with an instructor, creating a finished piece to take home. Students are encouraged bring their own ideas, a lot of energy, and patience. Students must wear closed toe shoes, long sleeved cotton shirts, and thick cotton or denim long pants.
Level: Beginner/Intermediate
Age: 14 +
This class is offered to students who have some welding experience and wish to learn more in-depth techniques as well as incorporating other materials in creating sculpture. Students will have access to oxy-acetylene for cutting and bending, MIG welders, and finishing tools as well as materials. Students may use the welding facilities the following week, working independently, for an hourly rate. Please contact the SAW office for details.
Long sleeved cotton shirts, thick cotton or denim long pants, and leather boots are required. Students should bring pencil and paper to sketch out ideas and take notes.

Our 4th annual Spirits of September cocktail fundraiser will be on September 26, 2013. It will offer signature spirits, gourmet fare, live and silent auctions, live entertainment, surprises for guests and the presentation of an award to CDPHP for its impact on mentoring in the Capital Region. Attendance averages 200 young, established professionals from the local business community. Spirits of September celebrates and promotes the success and importance of mentoring, and raises awareness and funds for our mission. Our 2013 goal is to raise over enough money to leverage 50 new matches.

7th Annual Intercollegiate Iron Pour(9:00 AM - 11:00 PM)

The 7th Annual Intercollegiate Iron Pour is a chance for college students from across the nation to come together for three days to share techniques, ideas, and resources in iron casting. Participants spend the weekend working in groups to prepare the furnace and pour site. The $80 (plus $0.50 per lb. of iron, $20 per 100 lbs. of sand) fee includes participation in the pour as well as meals and camping for the weekend. Interested participants should contact the Salem Art Works office as well as their respective art departments.
Participants interested in taking a mold making workshop prior to the pour should contact the SAW office for pricing and scheduling.

Students should come with their own materials to print on and are encouraged to bring a selection of sketches and images to work from. Since 1981, over 600,000 Americans have died of AIDS.
Every 9 1/2 minutes, someone in the U.S becomes infected with HIV.
Approximately 20% of people infected with HIV do not know it.
As of December 1, 2008, approximately 116,000 New Yorkers were reported living with either HIV or AIDS and NYS remained the epicenter of the AIDS epidemic, with 16 percent of all people living with AIDS nationally.

The 11th Annual "The Way We Were" Car Show takes place Sunday, October 13, 2013 (rain date October 20). More than 50 top companies and medical facilities in the North Country area, along with teams made up of people with a direct connection to heart disease and stroke, will help raise funds for cardiovascular research and education. Participants will have the opportunity to learn about health and fitness through interactive activities enjoy breakfast and lunch; and take an autumn walk in a special and unique place.

Anagama Kiln Firing(10:00 AM - 5:00 PM)
Salem Art Works
Salem Art Works will have four kiln firings in 2013. These firings are available to ceramic artists who would like their work fired in the anagama wood kiln. Three full days will be spent loading the kiln, taking into account the movement of the flame and desired surface on the pieces. After loading, the kiln will be fired for five days and four nights, overseen by ceramic artists on site. All work must be cone 10 clay, bone dry, or bisque fired and delivered to SAW at least two weeks prior to each firing for loading. The price is 6 cents per cubic inch for firing.
The public is always invited to come and watch the process and watch the unloading as the ceramic artists discover their finished work as it comes out of the kiln.

The 9th Annual Center Crafts show is juried fine arts and fine crafts show taking place December 7 and 8, from 11 - 5 Saturday and 11 - 4 Sunday, at the Saratoga Arts Council Center, 320 Broadway, in Saratoga Springs, NY.
There will be a selection of juried artists exhibiting handmade and very Gift-able Works of Art.
The exhibitors presented are some of New England's top artists and craftspeople working in a variety of media. Handmade jewelry, fine woven garments, hand crafted leather belts and sculpted buckles, sculpture, functional stoneware and raku pottery, hand made bow ties, quilts, mixed media paintings and much more will be available for sale.
