What is Chocolate Fest?
As part of our monthly First Friday Events, we present our February family fun event – the Ballston Spa Chocolate Festival on Friday, February 7, 2020. Area restaurants, bakeries, and chefs are all welcome to compete in a chance to showcase their talents and tastes by preparing small sample sized chocolate offerings to be judged by a panel as well as fan favorite recognition. Each visitor pays $1 for the sample and will vote on their favorites in 3 categories. Come be a part of the fun!

The Chocolate Competition
The competition is open to restaurants, bakeries, chefs and home processors working in commercial kitchens or adhering to NYS Health Department and Agricultural and Markets rules and regulations. Competitors (Chocolate Chefs) may enter in 3 judged categories: desserts (sweet), savory and chocolate beverage. Chocolate Chefs may enter as many of the three categories as they like but only one dish per category. All samples will cost $1 each to festival visitors to help with the cost of producing the food for the chocolate Chefs. The public can then fill out the ballots available at all of the tasting stations, or Sweet Spots. In order for the ballot to be counted in the final judging, people will need to visit and rate at least 5 different samples. There will be at least one award for each category.

    Please check the competition category or categories you wish to enter. $25 entry fee per category entered.
  • By completing and submitting this form, Applicant assumes all risk for any loss, damage, or injury to himself/herself or his/her property by agreeing to participate in the Ballston Spa Chocolate Fest on February 7, 2020. The Ballston Spa Business and Professional Association (BSBPA) and participating businesses shall in no way be liable for any damage to property or personal injury to any applicant or persons employed by applicants or persons authorized to participate in the Festival events. The First Friday Committee of the BSBPA will assign independent Chocolate Chefs to participating businesses within the downtown business district. Once an independent chef is assigned to a business both parties will be given appropriate contact information for scheduling and participation purposes. All Chocolate Chefs, including participating restaurants, must have their tastings prepared and present by 4:45pm for the Judges Tasting, which will begin at 5:00pm. The First Friday Committee of the BSBPA reserves the right to remove, without refund of any portion of the entrance fee, any participant who is disruptive, unprofessional, or offering unapproved items for tasting. Determinations under this provision will be made by authorized First Friday Committee/BSBPA personnel. Applicant agrees that all photos submitted with his/her application or taken during the Festival may be reproduced for publicity purposes as The BSBPA determines. The Applicant hereby releases The Ballston Spa Business and Professional Association and their member businesses participating in Chocolate Fest, both as business entities and individually, and their successors, assigns, officers, employees and agents from all claims, demands, actions, or causes of action that the Applicant may acquire against the Ballston Spa Chocolate Fest arising out of or in any way connected with the Applicant’s participation.

      Chocolate Fest takes place at several venues in Ballston Spa’s downtown business district (generally, Milton Avenue/Front Street/Washington Street). Visitors can pick up ballots with a map of “Sweet Spots” at any participating location and will stroll to each venue to sample entries. The ballot/map will also be available on our website closer to the event date to download and print.
