COVID-19 Information and Resources

Due to the COVID-19 restrictions,  Networking Breakfasts have been suspended until further notice.  In lieu of in person shopping and dining on First Friday, we are encouraging folks to support our local small businesses by purchasing gift certificates, shopping with them online, if applicable, and using takeout or delivery service from local restaurants.

As of now, summer events, such as the Concerts in the Park and outdoor movies have been put on hold for the months of June and July as we follow state guidelines for public entertainment.  We will update as the season progresses and hope to have  some events take place later in August/September.

The Ballston Spa Farmers’ Market will take place, starting June 13, but will follow NYS guidelines for operation.

We are offering our social media platforms to help get the word out about changes and updates to our member businesses and organizations in these current circumstances.  Our social media committee will be monitoring and sharing your posts as much as possible, but please do tag us (Ballston Spa Business & Professional Association) so we don’t miss any.  We suggest business members take advantage of our Ballston Spa BSBPA Member News and Deals Facebook group, which is open to join for you to post your information.  Furthermore, you can email your information to

The BSBPA office is open as usual, M-F, 10 am-5 pm.

We are a Village of Friends, and even as we practice social distancing, we can still support each other.  Stay informed and positive—we will weather this together.

Re-opening Information and Guidelines

Businesses in each region of New York State will re-open in phases. Re-opening refers to non-essential businesses and business activities. Essential businesses and business activities that are open will remain open.  The Capital Region, including Saratoga County, is scheduled to open in Phase 1 on May 20.

Each re-opening business must develop a written Safety Plan outlining how its workplace will prevent the spread of COVID-19. A business may fill out this template to fulfill the requirement, or may develop its own Safety Plan.

Your reopening plan does not need to be submitted to a state agency for approval. You do need to retain a copy of your plan on the premises of the business and it must be made available to the New York State Department of Health (DOH) or local health or safety authorities in the event of an inspection.

General Information:

Face Mask Usage:

Governor Cuomo has issued an executive order requiring all people in New York to wear a mask or a face covering when out in public and in situations where social distancing cannot be maintained.  Remember that wearing a face covering does not mean you can ignore other precautions — New Yorkers are still directed to stay at home for all but essential errands.

The CDC has a helpful resource on its website outlining how to wear a mask and instructions on how to make a homemade mask.

Additionally there are local groups who are sewing masks.

Saratoga Sews is a volunteer group making homemade masks to distribute for free to our high risk neighbors. Masks will be distributed first to area low and moderate senior residences and those greatest at risk. They can use more volunteers and supplies and support. Contact:

Harmony Designs is a local sewing and alteration business that is also creating and donating masks. They can also use supplies.

Updated  5/7/20-open enrollment extended. Health Insurance Coverage can be a concern for many during this time of layoffs and closings. Adirondack Health Institute (AHI) offers free assistance in navigating the health insurance enrollment process. NY State of Health has opened a special enrollment period for uninsured individuals who need to enroll in a Qualified Health Plan. New York State of Health has extended the Special Open Enrollment Period during which eligible individuals will be able to enroll in insurance coverage to June 15, 2020.   Also, individuals and small businesses that have health insurance through the New York State of Health that are experiencing financial hardship due to COVID-19 may defer paying health insurance premiums through 6/1/20.   Pursuant to the new federal law, Families First Coronavirus Response Act, that went into effect on Wednesday, March 18, 2020, all Medicaid coverage in effect on the date the law was enacted will continue during the COVID-19 emergency.   Any cases terminated after March 18, 2020 during the period of the COVID-19 emergency will be reinstated with no gap in coverage.   Additionally, all Medicaid, Child Health Plus and Essential Plan cases that are due for recertification during the COVID-19 emergency period will be automatically renewed for a four month period.   If the state was reimbursing a consumer for their health insurance premiums, the reimbursement will also be extended.    As of  4/9/20, applicants who receive an eligibility determination of “Pending Medicaid” will not be required to submit documentation of income during this time and the application will be processed within a few days after which they can then select a health plan for their managed care provider.    Due dates for providing the required documents for these “Pending Medicaid” cases will not be required for four months.

AHI is handling health insurance enrollment appointments by phone, rather than in-person at this time.   As appointments are made, clients will be made aware that they will receive a phone call from their enrollment specialist who will assist them in completing their health insurance application.  AHI serves those in Clinton, Essex, Franklin, Fulton, Hamilton, Saratoga, Warren and Washington Counties. Call 1.866.872.3740, or visit the EASE webpage to request a free telephone appointment.
