Adult Sports and Fitness Opportunities in the Ballston Spa Schools


The Ballston Spa Community Education Program is currently offering two adult sports opportunities with Co-ed Indoor Soccer available on Mondays and Men’s Basketball on Wednesdays. The next 10-week session begins the week of January 8, 2024 and requires a $35 fee for district residents.

The popular adult Walk About program continues throughout the winter months and provides a safe, indoor walking course for those interested in a low impact fitness activity. This program is offered Monday through Thursday evenings from 6:00 – 7:00pm. A $20 registration fee is required for this program and non-residents are charged $25 to participate. Walkers may join the program at any time throughout the session.

Pre-registration is required and fees are due at the beginning of each session. Those interested may register by mail or in-person at the District Office, 70 Malta Avenue.  Additional information regarding any of the courses offered is available online at www.bscsd.org or by calling 884-7195 x 1329.

 

World Language Students Present Lip Sync Contest at BSHS

Ballston Spa High School World Language students recently gave an amazing Lip Sync concert of eleven French and Spanish songs.  Over 150 International Baccalaureate and UHS/CHS juniors and seniors presented an array of musical performances. Some students performed on stage while others provided support backstage in various roles.

The students worked hard, and through the music they learned vocabulary, grammar, and culture.  Best of all, they came together as a group, class, and school.  The language teachers indicated that “It was truly a memorable night” and would like to say a big “merci” and “gracias” to all those who performed as well as to those who attended and supported them.

1st Place: “Dance the Night” from Barbie – UHS French 5 

2nd Place:  “Cruising for a Bruisin ” from Teen Beach Movie–  UHS Spanish 4 

3rd Place:  “Bohemian Rhapsody” by Queen – Spanish 5 

 The event was hosted by the BSHS International Club and its members helped with ticket sales, programs, etc. All donations will be utilized to fund scholarships for graduating seniors.

The UHS/CHS and IB teachers include Ms. Ahl, Mrs. Alverson, Mrs. Bredderman, and Ms. Gearwar. Judges for the event included High School Principal Matt Robinson, HS Assistant Principal Kathryn McTiernan and middle school teachers, Mrs. Goutvisas, Mrs. Suits, Ms. Whisenhunt, and Ms. Brown-Trautner.

 

 

 

Ballston Spa Schools awarded GLOBALFOUNDRIES-Town of Malta Foundation Grants

The Ballston Spa schools were among the community organizations selected to receive funding from the GLOBALFOUNDRIES-Town of Malta Foundation as they announced their awards for 2023.  The grant awards included $16,000 for several district projects and programs.  

The district’s Ballston Spa Partnership for Innovation in Education Fund received $10,000 to support the  Robotics Team and Competitions.  The High School Parent Teacher Student Association (PTSA) received $5,000 to support Senior Class activities and the annual After Prom event. The Middle School PTA received $1,000 to support a Digital Safety program for parents/students.

“We are thrilled to receive the support of the GLOBALFOUNDRIES-Town of Malta Foundation to enhance our programs throughout the district,” said Superintendent Dr. Gianleo Duca of the Ballston Spa CSD. Further, “We appreciate their ongoing investment in providing the best learning experiences and opportunities for students.”

The GLOBALFOUNDRIES-Town of Malta Foundation recently presented its 2023 slate of 30 grants totaling $144,331 benefiting local organizations and community projects. The Foundation was developed to fund organizations, programs and projects that provide tangible benefits of a public nature to diverse groups serving the citizens of the Town of Malta, including not-for-profit corporations, charitable organizations, community arts and theater groups, community historical sites, special events, education programs, and sports and recreation activities.
